  • Good to see @LucyBella back on Twitter… #
  • @chriswaterguy we have armies of vandal-fighting bots that auto-revert too. #
  • Today's xkcd makes a good point… but I /like/ my terrible screen (though I never use myc alculator anymore). #
  • Rediscovering the music from SpellForce 2 (a game I never finished) this morning. #
  • Though this track is sounding awfully like Neverwinter NIghts… #
  • Enjoying some ELinks documentation: "… so that arbitrary Python code can be invoked at the whim of the user." #
  • Compiling ELinks from source to enable python scripting support… #
  • (I really should use Arch or Gentoo or something…) #
  • Spent the last hour or so learning that @salavant doesn't know his way around Sheffield… #
  • Been reading ArchLinux documentation. This is seriously impressive: http://versia.com/2009/09/05/arch-linux-yaourt-customizepkg-beauty/ #
  • Bought something off eBay by mistake; didn't read listing carefully enough. Thank goodness for distance selling regulations. #
  • About to burn ArchLinux iso to replace Debian Testing with it. #
  • @sinewave @mooseguy do I need to start the Alien Swarm download tonight to get it for free? #
  • @sinewave correction: until Steam dies. Also I don't seem to be able to "buy" it – waht did you click? #
  • @sinewave it says "available in x hours" there for me. Shall try logging in. #
  • Arch wiki convincing me to use 64-bit since kernels for more than 3GB of memory under 32-bit not auto-installed as other distros do. #
  • Having ext4 on my new install. Hope it is as good as they say. #
  • That install took a while, but I configured everything carefully. Let's see if I can boot my new encrypted ArchLinux system. #
  • starfleet #
  • Accidentally tweeted zephyr's BIOS password! Glad I don't use it for anything else anymore. Hope the tweet didn't get mirrored. #
  • And she boots beautifully. I wonder if I can get WiFi working before I go to bed… #
  • @Fr3d_org whyever not? Useful at LAN parties. #
  • @mooseguy what? What makes you like it? I'm quite surprised. #
  • Finally got my USB wireless adapter working, so I no longer need to tether laptop to desktop in bedroom. #
  • Arch has nano and vi installed by default, whereas Debian just has vi. THIS WILL NOT STAND. #
  • @mooseguy Arch is for advanced users who know how to get Debian to work :P #
  • @mooseguy additionally there are many distros out there and choosing one by a process of elimination is probably a bit silly… #
  • @mooseguy haha well I certainly didn't choose Arch because it is a "piece of cake to setup". #
  • @mooseguy one of Arch's best features is the ability to install things gentoo-style if you want. #
  • @mooseguy (my main reason for switching, since I need to recompile stuff and Debian makes it very hard) #
  • @mooseguy :D ahhhhh gentoo #
  • @mooseguy I have no desire to recompile standard stuff like that. #
  • Got X running with the nvidia drivers. That's basically it: all that's left is to do an epic software install and repository clone. #
  • @mshaw_uk you should stop running junk, then. I can't believe that a processor like that is genuinely not enough. #
  • Zephyr's new working wireless is very shaky and often won't associate :( #
  • Hmm and now it's working fine, with great signal strength with its new placement stuck to my window frame… #
  • @mshaw_uk can you give me an example? #
  • SO this is why 64-bit GNU/Linux is a bad idea atm: Adobe pulled the flash port, and the old versions aren't being distributed for safety. #
  • @roberthl @mshaw_uk haha you both just @-replied me regarding Flash. #
  • @sinewave I don't know the current status but last time I looked it wasn't very good. #
  • @sinewave wrt wifi, it's a router issue – it's not signal strength now I've positioned it up on the window #
  • @mshaw_uk I feel really sorry for you having to use Flash :( #
  • @feliciaday thanks for the notification, but please don't *ask* for retweets, as it defeats the point. #
  • Ah, so it's full-scren flash that is breaking musca. #
  • Repository cloning in progress after an Arch hiccup wrt git-fake-bare… #
  • Next boot, after tea, should be to my full desktop. #
  • Everything working except wrong size Terminus font; now I understand what K.Mandla meant. Time to put laptop into storage. #
  • It's great to be able to clear away a large amount of cabling now I only need one computer on at once… #
  • Hmm. It seems my setup is more Debian dependent than I thought; tweaking to do. Glad to be able to improve things. #
  • Switching from DHCP to a static UIP configuration has dramatically improved wireless reliability. #
  • Still clearing out Debianisms from my homedir. And Archisms too: Terminus is the wrong size; can't cope :( #
  • Still clearing out Debianisms. And Archisms too: Terminus is the wrong size; can't cope :( #
  • To celebrate my fully operational system I'm blasting out ABBA. #
  • @mooseguy yeah pretty epic stuff. #
  • @DragonMia I have done, and I sent a reply. #
  • Nice: when mplayer spawns on another group it plays a split second so you can hear it, then pauses the video. #
  • @DragonMia ah sorry, I have very poor mobile reception at home. Please just e-mail me :-) #
  • @DragonMia please PM me your e-mail address so I can reply… #
  • ahhh so I think my notifications script is running multiple times… #
  • Installing Lucid in a virtual machine so I can actually have a go with it. #
  • @freezombie hmm? I have created a virtual machine and am installing Ubuntu in it. #
  • @tomaca12 why? #
  • Just passed on the nick kitten to someone else on freenode ^_^ #
  • Yeah. #
  • @mooseguy Apple use gdb rather than writing their own debugger? Nice! #
  • Trip to town cancelled due to mother making me wait for a delivery :( #
  • I really need to make the switch to Chronicle from WordPress. It'll take quite a bit of manual labour to import comments, though :\ #
  • @sinewave you're a sysadmin? *sniggers* #
  • Haven't written any LaTeX in a while and yet vim-latexsuite's shortcuts remain intuitive and speedy. #
  • My autocompilation still works too :D #
  • @issyl0 well yes obviously. That doesn't stop it from being pleasing. #
  • Downloading PDFs from Oxford websites before they get taken down for the new year. #
  • Time for some DotA. #
  • RT @brionv: "Objective-C is like Latin… there's only one country in the world where it's still spoken officially." http://ur1.ca/0tffm #
  • About to head off into town to check out Access Space and ahnd out some more CVs. #
  • Busy day out. Visited Access Space for the first time (epic), rang for a wedding and spent the afternoon at @DragonMia's. #
  • @mooseguy I don't understand; why did you feel the need to open up your router? #
  • Went out to a Japanese restaurant last night for @LucyBella's birthday – @mshaw_uk would be proud. #
  • Activated CS:S guest pass and played some Alien Swarm. Really enjoyed the latter, but found the former pretty boring. #
  • @mooseguy is it any good? #
  • @mooseguy my step-father said it was average at best. Why do you feel the need to swear about it? #
  • @mooseguy try a night club. Same thing, but it's dark.. #
  • Plot of GTAIV took a dark turn. Deep stuff. #
  • Better find a patch for SupCom FA. #
  • Moderately worried this patch is patching /from/ the wrong version. Really hope it works. Better bring serial just in case :S #
  • Zephyr operational at the LAN. #
  • Enjoying @sinewave lording it over me for being better at a game than me (s/me/someone else) (CS:S). #
  • Looks like @n3hima isn't going to be able to play Sins with us :(~ #
  • Uh oh. Looks like Sins isn't going to be able to host us a game… #
  • Accidentally dropped my 21" CRT on my desk. Mother somewhat furious. http://twitpic.com/28main #
  • Used xbindkeys to get the audio buttons on this ancient keyboard opreational. #
  • Spent some time rearranging things on my desk to deal with lack of space due to huge CRT. http://twitpic.com/28n2ko #
  • @issyl0 just my web browser. #
